Mayor of Sligo calls on Eircell to dismantle unauthorised Strandhill mast apparatus

The Mayor of Sligo, Sinn Fein Alderman Sean MacManus, has called on Eircell to dismantle their of mobile phone mast apparatus on the old National School in Strandhill, County Sligo on Thursday last, which he claims was erected ``without any planning permission being sought, let alone being granted''.

Mayor MacManus said:

``Once again, it appears that Eircell are attempting to ride roughshod over the planning laws.

``The people of Strandhill do not want a telecommunications mast in the heart of their community and Eircell should dismantle at once this unauthorised structure. It appears Eircell believe they are above the law and, unlike ordinary citizens, do not need to seek planning permission for their unwanted structures.

``If Eircell do not immediately dismantle their antennae, then Sligo County Council must move swiftly to bring legal action to force them to comply.

``The health and safety of the residents of Strandhill and other areas must come before the profits of the mobile phone companies.''
