Burke welcomes opening of hospital
Councillor Christy Burke of Dublin Central Sinn Fein has welcomed the announcement that the Eastern Regional Health Board has successfully completed it's acquisition of St. Joseph's Hospital, Raheny. The purchase price of the hospital was 10 million and the Northern Area Health Board will take operational responsibility for running the facility.
Cllr. Burke said;
``The city will benefit significantly from the opening of this facility. The sale of the hospital to the ERHA is particularly welcome when one considers that a commercial sale to developers would have been much more financially rewarding for the former owners.
``However, there is need for much more investment in local healthcare when one considers that 2,393 people are on waiting lists in Beaumont Hospital and a further 3,419 are awaiting treatment in the Mater Hospital.''
