Sinn Fein take Chair of Leitrim County Council

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP has congratulated Micheal Colreavy on his election as Chairperson of Leitrim County Council this afternoon.  This follows the election earlier in the week of Councillor Sean MacManus as Mayor of Sligo Corporation.

Mr. Adams said:

``The election this afternoon of Councillor Micheal Colreavy as Chairperson of Leitrim County Council reflects the growth which Sinn Fein is currently undergoing in the constituency of Sligo/Leitrim.

``The ongoing rise of Sinn Fein throughout the country is evident both in terms of people joining the party and in those who support our radical republican and labour agenda.

``Sinn Fein is committed to securing Irish unity and independence.  We are committed to a radical programme of social and economic change based on equality and social justice.  We are committed to ending the cosy cartel in business and politics which has  resulted in widespread corruption and misconduct in public life.  And we will puruse this agenda in our communities, on the streets and in elected office.''
