DUP picket of language office in Dublin promoting Irish and Ulster-Scots is ``puzzling''

Sinn Fein Ard Chomhairle spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh said that the picket of the North-South Language Body in Dublin today by Ian Paisley's Democratic Unionist Party was ``puzzling, short-sighted and regrettable because the body is promoting Ulster-Scots as well as Irish''.

Mr Ó Snodaigh said:

``It's a shame that the DUP's William McCrea and Jim Wells came all the way to Dublin to try and bring down a body endorsed by more than two million voters who backed the Good Friday Agreement and its institutions.

``Ian Paisley's DUP seems to set its face against any move towards equality of esteem for nationalists. Ian Paisley and William McCrea need to wake up and realise they are living in the 21st Century, not the penal days of the 18th Century.''
