Garda action at Angelo Fusco extradition hearing condemned as heavy handed
Sinn Fein has criticised the Garda action against protestors at the Angelo Fusco extradition hearing at the High Court in Dublin today as ``unnecessary, heavy handed and provocative''.
A number of people said they were injured when they tried to stage a sit-down protest against the continued detention of Mr Fusco and the refusal to grant him bail.
Sinn Fein Dublin North City Councillor Nicky Kehoe said:
``The Garda action was over the top - unnecessary, heavy handed and provocative. If they had allowed people to stage a peaceful symbolic protest to show their anger and disappointment then the situation would have passed off without incident.''
Councillor Kehoe said that the Garda attitude was one of confrontation and did nothing to help calm a situation which had to be defused by Sinn Fein councillors and officials.
