    Political Corruption

  1. Support the motion   Oppose the motion

That this Ard Fheis deplores the culture of secrecy, lies, cover-ups and corruption that is rampant in political and financial circles as evidenced from the current Tribunals and the ongoing revelations in the media. We believe that the lack of openness and accountability which has been the hallmark of successive governments which have included Fiana Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and the PDs has contributed immensely to, and helped to disguise, the extent to which this corruption has permeated Irish society. If people are to regain faith in our political institutions, then the government must become more open, democratic, with all information accessible to the public and all public representatives serving the interests of the wider public rather than their own narrow and selfish interests.

  2. Support the motion   Oppose the motion

That this Ard Fheis welcomes the fact that the Tribunals of the past few years have publicly exposed the sleaze and corruption that Sinn Fein has long claimed was rife in political and business circles. However, dfecisive action is needed to mete out justice to the fraudsters and to curb the huge payout to the lawyers at the expense of taxpayers. Action is also needed to make the local government and the planning process more open and tranparent so that corruption would be more difficult and more easily detected.

  3. Support the motion   Oppose the motion

That this Ard Fheis call on the Dublin government to make public the names of all politicians that availed of the disgraceful tax amnesties, so that the general public can see clearly what public representatives were tax cheats and engaged in defrauding this state.
